Solar PV Systems for Residential Properties

PV System

Watch video how PV works

Solar Partner’s PV (photovoltaic) solar systems are design to be installed over your existing roof coverings, providing a quick and practical solution.

Solar PV systems come in different sizes and layouts to match your budget and the area available. As the systems are fixed more commonly to your existing roof no structural alterations are necessary.

Solar Partner's PV systems are built with components that have been carefully selected to ensure optimum compatibility to provide a reliable source of power.

Power output from the modules is guaranteed for 25 years at 80% rated output power, and with no moving parts the system requires very limited on-roof maintenance or servicing.

  1. The PV array is installed in the best location to maximise the power output, for example in a residential installation on the roof. The PV modules are connected in series to generate a direct current (DC).

  2. This direct current is converted to alternating current (AC) at grid rating by the inverter. Each kWp installed in the UK will generate, on average, 850kWh. This will vary depending on orientation and location.

  3. This AC generated by your PV system is connected into the main distribution box for the building. Here it is used the same as the electricity that would have been drawn from the grid.

  4. In times when you are producing more than you are using, any excess is fed back to the grid while in times of excess demand, this is topped up by drawing from the grid.

  5. The meter will thus show the net electricity exported or imported to or from the national grid by the property.
Application:
The domestic photovoltaic system generates electricity from daylight. This is commonly installed as a retrofit solution but can also be fitted to new buildings in place of conventional tiles. The range of PV panels available caters for all types of roofs and climatic conditions, transforming traditional buildings into miniature, clean power stations - in as little as one day (or dependant on the size of the system).

Features:
  • Very flexible, low-cost design solution - using a range of panels systems can be adapted for almost any building and roof type
  • The design minimises the number of roof penetrations reducing the likelihood of water penetration.
  • Quick and easy installation - fixing solutions have been developed to aid rapid installation
  • Requires no alterations to existing roof structure
  • Simple electrical connection - the system requires a single connection from the solar inverter to the household wiring
  • Easily monitored - supplied with an energy meter to monitor system performance and encourage energy efficiency
Location suitability:
A PV solar system can be fitted to any unshaded south, west or east-facing roof with an area of at least 7 square metres.
